Located on the Ionian coast, opposite the Greek island of Corfu, Saranda is Albania’s most famous seaside resort and is known as the ’pearl of Albania’, nestled as it is in a bay of the blue open sea. Graced with a favourable climate and with a variety of fragrant colourful flora, which bloom along the white sand beaches, it has a fine setting. Due to its location on the warm Ionian Saranda is the southernmost point of the Albanian Riviera. Ancient mosaics show that it existed in the second and third centuries AD, but it is mentioned even earlier by the Roman statesman and orator Cicero who described it as a ‘convenient harbour with favourable winds’. For the best experience here we recommend that you take a tour as the main highlights are located in a short distance away from the port.
